England Ashes squad First Test

England's squad for the Ashes First Test has been announced.
The news is that Thorpe is not in the squad, this only means that England selectors want young blood in the squad. Pietersen comes in place of Thorpe in the squad. Tremlett is another new face in the Test squad.
Thorpe is only dropped from the first Test, He is in the reckoning for the remaining Tests.

I feel Pietersen is a better option than Thorpe. Firstly Pietersen has much match practice against the Aussies currently than Thorpe, who was not in the ODI Squad. Secondly Pietersen's a very good fielder. Thirdly he is an attacking batsman. Fourthly he is very young and energetic. His body language is very positive. He will do well in Test's.

The full squad includes: Trescothick, Strauss, Vaughan, Bell, Pietersen, Flintoff, Geriant Jones, Giles, Simon Jones, Hoggard, Harmison, Tremlett.

The First Test starts on July 21 at Lords.

Hi,

I didn't agree with you on Pieterson is better option than Thrope. First of all look at the average of Thrope, he bagged 44.66 in test match and against Australia he averages 45.74. Secondly you mention Pieterson is good fielder, have you seen Thrope took some stunning catch in forward short leg position. Thirdly u said Pieterson is attacking batsman, Test cricket doesn;t need attacking batsmen, England now need one good middle order who can play under pressure. I think Thrope is the ideal pick for that

We have taken Bell for granted. He hasn't faced australia yet and there's no guarentee that he'll play well.he might, but it remains to be seen.He shoud've been tried out in the ODIs at least. If Bell fails, then Thorpe will come in.I agree with Deena that Thorpe is a safer bet.
